The Sing! Hymnal — Keith & Kristyn Getty

This hymnal is a treasure chest. It holds ancient truths, modern hymns, rich doctrine, and melodies that actually work on a Sunday morning. It’s not fluff. It’s not sentimental syrup. It’s robust, Christ-exalting, Bible-saturated singing. Let's be honest — there’s something deeply satisfying about holding a thick hymnal. It feels like you’re holding weighty truth. Also, if the power goes out, you’re still ready. No Wi-Fi required for doxology. If you want a hymnal that will disciple your church, strengthen your theology, and occasionally make you grin at how rich it is — this is it. Five stars. Would sing again. Forever, probably.

For some churches, this is going to be a tough sell. With everything projected on a screen or a large TV, and with contemporary music taking over, many churches are doing away with hymnals. Sing! Is not the first attempt to accommodate both hymns and modern music, but it may well be the best. First of all, this is a well-made hymnal, designed to last decades of use. It is generous, with 900 songs and 1019 pages. The print quality is ideal. The numbers are in red, to stand out, making it easier to find. It includes both a regular and a topical index, readings, and something I’ve never seen before--hymn stories. We could all complain that some favorites are missing. I would have liked to see some folk-mass songs. From what I see, songs that lend themselves to congregational singing, not solos, are the focus. Guitar chords would have been nice to have, but most hymnals omit them. Obviously, the best of Getty/Townend and their friends are here. Even if you don’t adopt this, at least make sure your music team has some copies. Drawing from this hymnal can only improve the sacred music your church is presenting, to the glory of God.

If you are looking for a modern day hymnal this is it. It has newer songs that we know, but also includes hymns we've never heard of. The Gettys did really well on this huge project. Bonus tip: You can search The Gettys on Spotify and can find almost every song.

We were "previewing" the hymnal when our church was trying to decide on a new hymnal. We (pastors, deacons, several other members) all agreed on the Sing! Hymnal. We loved the selection of hymns--certainly the "classics" but many, many modern compositions with good music and rich wording. The scoring of the music is amazing. We also loved the coordinated readings integrated with the hymns. The organization of the material was well thought out, providing the users with various indexes--by title, subject, composer, author, sources, meter, etc. But the people who put together the book were also VERY knowledgeable about and sensitive to the quality of paper used--its color, feel, opacity. They paid attention to the music and print: fonts, layout, music setting and scores. It's just a really nice book to hold in your hand and to look at/through. It's a pleasure to use.

The Sing! Hymnal is absolutely wonderful. It’s clear that a lot of thought and prayer went into putting this collection together. The layout is clean, the print is easy to read, and the hardcover binding feels durable enough to last through years of use. I especially appreciate the mix of timeless classics like “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” alongside newer hymns from the Sing! movement. The theological depth and musical richness make it perfect for both congregational worship and personal devotion. Our church recently started using this hymnal, and it’s been a blessing. The arrangements are singable, and the focus always remains on Christ. Whether you’re a worship leader, a choir member, or someone who just loves hymns, this hymnal is an inspiring addition to any collection.

I love Hymns and have several hymn books. This one is my favourite. Our worship pastor has introduced the same hymnals at our church and it is nice to have both the words and the music to read.

My family loves this hymnal! Rich with lots of Scriptural, historical, and thematic context and information. Includes more recent hymns as well. Great resource.
